From d.carpenter at virgin.net Fri Aug 8 11:49:55 2008 From: d.carpenter at virgin.net (David Carpenter) Date: Fri Aug 8 11:52:03 2008 Subject: [Wylug-announce] Bradfford - Next Meeting Message-ID: <1218192588.5931.42.camel@david-laptop> Wednesday 20th August 7pm - venue to be confirmed We took a decision to have the Bradford LUG meeting the week following the WYLUG one in Leeds. So the Bradford LUG will be meeting on the week of the 3rd Monday of the month - BUT we're not sure which day yet! This month we'll try the Wednesday(because a few people can make Wednesday that couldn't make the first meeting) - so that's Wednesday 20th August 7pm - venue to be confirmed. Regarding a venue we've been trying to negotiate a space in Bradford City Centre, but have not got anything sorted as yet, so we could be looking at a pub again. If anyone has any suggestions then please let me know. I'm also trying to get some space sorted with lug.org.uk, but no joy so far.. Hope to see people soon David From wylug at jamesholden.net Fri Aug 8 14:47:09 2008 From: wylug at jamesholden.net (James Holden) Date: Fri Aug 8 14:48:30 2008 Subject: [Wylug-announce] Next Meeting: Summer Social (Monday 11 August 2008) Message-ID: <20080808134701.GA20631@vs03.2dcube.co.uk> Greetings, Our next meeting will be on Monday 11th August 2008. As per established tradition, the August meeting is our "summer social", and we will be meeting directly at the Victoria Hotel for food and drinks, rather that at the University. The food has been kindly sponsored by aql (www.aql.com) for a second year running. The event starts at 7pm and the room on the left as you walk into the pub has been reserved for our use. Directions: Victoria Hotel Great George St, Leeds, West Yorkshire LS1 3BB Tel: 0113 245 1386 http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?f=q&hl=en&q=LS1%203BB If anyone is lost, or confused about the venue, feel free to call me on 07989 702968. Hope to see you there! Cheers, James -------------- next part -------------- A non-text attachment was scrubbed... Spread the word - hope to see you soon. David From d.carpenter at virgin.net Fri Aug 29 16:34:51 2008 From: d.carpenter at virgin.net (David Carpenter) Date: Fri, 29 Aug 2008 16:34:51 -0000 Subject: [Wylug-announce] Open Street Map mapping party Bradford Message-ID: <1220027687.6035.9.camel@david-laptop> You may already know this and know all about OpenStreetMap, so please bear with me... OpenStreetMap (www.openstreetmap.org.uk) is organising a mapping party for the weekend of September 27/28 centred on Bradford, probably the largest conurbation in the UK with next to no mapping in OpenStreetMap. If you're not aware of OpenStreetMap, then check them out - it's partly about freedom of data, it's a lot about community, and it's also about maps for people the way they can use them (e.g. cycle parking is a feature of their mapping) Mapping parties are a way of 'getting the work done' but in a fun way. You don't need to be techy! The mapping party will be operating from the Midland Hotel in the city centre for the weekend. More info about the event is available here: http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/index.php/Bradford/Mapping_Party If you can go, (and you can use a wiki!), then it would be great if you could add your name to the "Who's Participating" section. I can't make it I'm afraid, but I can't wait to see what gets done. In the meantime the openstreetmap assault on Bingley and Baildon is in full swing! All the best David
